“We don’t have any rules. Everyone’s trying to figure it out. That’s why the Internet’s like the Wild West … We need to write the new rules,” said hip-hop mogul Jay-Z in a three-minute ad that aired during the NBA Finals last night. Fans were given a tiny bit of insight into the musician’s highly anticipated new album, Magna Carter Holy Grail, set for release on July 7, seeing him bouncing ideas back and forth with his team, including producers Rick Rubin and fellow musician Pharrell Williams. And rewriting the rules is exactly what this team of artists is doing, much to the benefit of Samsung Galaxy users.

Starting June 24, those who own a Samsung Galaxy S3, Galaxy S4, or Galaxy Note 2 will be able to download a new app called Magna Carter, which will provide an exclusive look at what inspired the music in the new album, including personal stories from Jay-Z himself. The first one million to download the app will also be able to download the new album, for free, three days before it’s made available to the rest of the world. (We’re not sure whether the app will also be limited to just the first one million downloads, or if it will continue to be available afterwards.)

This is the first time an album has been made exclusive to fans through a specific mobile manufacturer, and we’re pretty excited to see just how it fares, and whether other musicians will follow suit down the road. What we do know is that, according to the Wall Street Journal, Samsung struck a deal, paying $5 for each album download. With one million sales of the album already pre-sold to Samsung, it has technically already reached platinum status before its release.

So have Jay-Z and his crew managed to rewrite the rules? Or is this a just a gimmick? We’ll have to give it a little more time to see just how it all pans out. (Though really, we can’t imagine how it would fail … if the proliferation of piracy tells us just one thing, it’s that people love free stuff.) We’ll be doing our best to be among one of the million to download so we can report back on the experience. But just in case we can’t, and you’re able, let us know what you think.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 vs. Galaxy Z Fold 4: Do you need to upgrade?
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Z Fold 6.

Samsung is once again trying to woo foldable phone enthusiasts back into its camp with the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6. The key attraction this time around is a fresh design served in a thinner chassis. There’s a faster chipset inside, a slightly more durable build, a redesigned hinge mechanism, and a shallower crease on the inner foldable panel.

All that comes at a $100 price increase, though. Needless to say, it doesn’t sound like a particularly exciting year-on-year upgrade compared to the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and it's certainly not a standout device compared to rivals like the OnePlus Open and the Vivo X Fold 3 Pro.

Samsung recently released its newest generation of foldable devices, with the Galaxy Z Fold 6 leading the pack. This is Samsung's latest and greatest folding phone, and it packs in a ton of power and features with the latest software.

But there’s also another factor to consider, especially for the Galaxy Z Fold 6: the price. It’s certainly not cheap, and in fact, there was a price increase with the new model, so it’s more expensive than ever. If you’re thinking about buying the Galaxy Z Fold 6, here are five alternatives you should think about buying instead.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 vs. Galaxy S24 Ultra: don’t make a mistake
Renders of the Galaxy Z Fold 6 next to the Galaxy S24 Ultra.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 is easily the most technologically advanced smartphone Samsung has ever created. Not only does it have all the latest high-spec hardware -- including the fastest Qualcomm mobile processor and a gorgeous 120Hz display -- but it also folds in the center, expanding from a midsize smartphone into a tablet. If you've never used one, it's a real game changer, and it has a price to match.

But it's far from the only powerful and expensive phone sold by Samsung. It's not been that long since we were introduced to the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, and that device has become no less potent (or expensive) than it was upon launch. While it's certainly not a folding phone, the Galaxy S24 Ultra is still a smartphone to be reckoned with. It sports many of the same top specs and features as the Z Fold 6 and exceeds its folding sibling in some areas.
