Unannounced Droid Ultra smartphone shows up on Motorola’s website

Best Motorola phonesMotorola has accidentally published details on its own website of an unannounced smartphone, named the Droid Ultra. The page provides almost everything you could want to know about the phone, except what it looks like, as the main image is sadly missing. It has the tagline, “Think thin,” and sure enough, the specs confirm it’ll be 8.3mm thick. The blurb also states it’ll have a Kevlar body and be made available in a, “bunch of glossy colors.”

Don’t expect it to challenge smartphones such as the Galaxy S4 and the HTC One, as the Droid Ultra looks like a solid mid-range phone. The screen will measure 4.3-inches, and have a 960 x 540 pixel resolution, while the processor will be a 1.5GHz dual-core chip. An 8-megapixel camera sits on the rear of the Kevlar shell, along with an LED flash, while a disappointing VGA video call camera is round the front. Android 4.1 Jelly Bean is its operating system, and it’s compatible with 3G and 4G LTE networks.

The remainder of the feature list is fairly standard – 8GB of memory, a 2000mAh battery, DLNA, Wi-Fi, and a microSD card slot – but it does also have NFC built-in, along with the ability to function as a 3G or a 4G hotspot. While we don’t have a picture, the black model is said to have a, “diamond cut spin” to its aluminum frame. This is the same language used to describe the look of phones such as the Droid Razr M, so we can expect a similar style.

Motorola is rumored to be building up to the release of its Moto X hardware, which has been created alongside new owners Google, however before these arrive it’s having to work through a back catalog of phones from before Google took charge. We’d say this is one of them. No release date is mentioned, but an official announcement can’t be far away, seeing as the webpage is almost completely ready to go.

Galaxy Watch Ultra render OnLeaks & SmartPrix

The long-rumored Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra is expected to compete with the Apple Watch Ultra 2. And on at least one point, Samsung's ultra smartwatch could beat the one from Apple. According to 91Mobiles, the Galaxy Watch Ultra could be priced as low as $699. If correct, this would make it $100 less than the current Apple Watch Ultra.

Motorola is a brand that offers a wide variety of smartphones across all price points, whether you’re looking for a budget-friendly option or something more along the lines of a flagship device. The latest offering from Motorola is the Motorola Edge (2024), and it looks like a really solid choice if you want some power at a budget-friendly price.

With the Motorola Edge (2024), you have a pretty standard glass slab form factor smartphone. Motorola adds a touch of elegance with a beautiful Midnight Blue vegan leather back that should be a lot more grippy than your typical glass phone. It also has an IP68 rating, so it can withstand dust, dirt, and sand while being able to be submerged up to 1.5 meters in freshwater for up to 30 minutes.

2 reasons why you shouldn’t buy a Motorola phone in 2024
Someone holding the Moto G Power 5G (2024) and Moto G Stylus 5G (2024).

A few years ago, buying a Moto G phone was the thing to do if you wanted a quality Android phone on a budget. Starting with the first Moto G from 2013, it's a product line with a lot of history. Much of it is good, but in more recent years, there's been some bad, too.

Motorola's approach to the Moto G has been worrisome, especially in 2024. By March, the company had already announced and released three new Moto G models, none of which were particularly good. From low-quality displays, poor performance, bad cameras, and more, it felt like Motorola had lost its budget phone mojo.
