Check out our review of the HTC One Mini smartphone.

Earlier today, the HTC One launched on the Verizon network, and so as not to be outdone, AT&T has also announced a new HTC phone is heading its way. This time it’s the HTC One’s little brother, the HTC One Mini, and it’s a network exclusive. Yes, the smaller alternative to the One will be yours to purchase on August 23, when it’ll cost you just $100 with the usual signature on a two-year contract.

It’ll happily connect to AT&T’s 4G LTE network when it does arrive, so the only compromises you’ll have to make over the One will be its processing power and specs. The One Mini’s Super LCD 2 screen measures 4.3-inches and has a resolution of 720p, while the processor is a 1.4GHz dual-core Snapdragon 400. This is a step down from the One’s quad-core Snapdragon and 4.7-inch, 1080p screen; but then, it’s also half the price.

Not all corners have been cut. The UltraPixel camera remains on the rear of the phone, and comes with the HTC Zoe software, plus the phone’s chassis is still made from aluminum and shares the same sleek style as the HTC One. Other specs include 1GB of RAM, stereo BoomSound speakers and amp, Android 4.2.2 with HTC Sense 5 and BlinkFeed over the top, plus an 1800mAh battery.

The HTC One Mini isn’t the only new phone AT&T is launching on August 23, as it has also snagged the rights to sell the enormous Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3, which has a screen 2-inches larger than the One Mini. So, no matter whether you like your smartphones big or, um, not quite so big, AT&T has you covered.

Future Android phones may come with another preinstalled Google app
The new Cardio Load and Readiness features in the Fitbit app.

If you have an Android phone, you know it comes with many preinstalled Google apps, such as Gmail, YouTube, and Google Maps. In future Android versions, another Google app might be automatically added to the mix.

As 9to5Google first noted, the Oppo Find X8 has Google’s Fitbit app preloaded on the device. It’s now part of Google’s Android app suite on that handset and replaces Google Fit. The site suggests, and probably rightly so, that more Android-based devices will also probably ship with Fitbit preinstalled in the future.
