It sure is a sign of the times. Firefox is growing in popularity and one of the largest PC manufacturers decides to distribute Netscape’s web browser alongside Internet Explorer. Usersof the new systems will be able to choose Netscape 8 or Internet Explorer as their default browser during the setup process. Netscape 8.0 is based on the popular Firefox code and will automaticallyadjust its safety and security settings to protect users. "HP is pleased to offer our customers a choice with the addition of the Netscape browser to our consumer PC line up," saidNick Labosky, Director of Worldwide Consumer PC Beyond-the-Box group at HP. "By including Netscape 8.0 on our PCs, HP is providing people a more secure computing experience via the browser’scutting-edge security features and other functionality that make being online safer for our customers."

OpenAI could release its next-generation model by December

ChatGPT giving a response about its knowledge cutoff.

OpenAI plans to release its next-generation frontier model, code-named Orion and rumored to actually be GPT-5, by December, according to an exclusive report from The Verge. However, OpenAI boss Sam Altman is already pushing back.

According to "sources familiar with the plan," Orion will not initially be released to the general public, as the previous GPT-4 variants were. Instead, the company intends to hand the new model over to select businesses and partners, who will then use it as a platform to build their own products and services. This is the same strategy that Nvidia is pursuing with its NVLM 1.0 family of large language models (LLMs).

Your next Windows update should install much faster

It's about time Windows 11 users got some good news about updates. Microsoft recently claimed in a blog post that thanks to 24H2's servicing stack, the update installs up to 45.6% faster than previous versions of Windows. The upcoming update will use fewer system resources, and the restart time will be faster.

According to Microsoft's tests on PCs that had not been updated for 18 months and ones that were regularly updated, there were significant improvements to celebrate. On the well-maintained PCs, installation time was 45.6% faster, restart time was 39.7% faster, and CPU usage was 15.3% less. In an atypical scenario with an 18-month out-of-date PC, the installation time was 43.6% faster, restart time was 33.5% faster, and CPU usage was 25% less.
