Sierra Entertainment has announced it will be offering the hit 2D arcade game Geometry Wars: Galaxies for the Nintendo Wii console and Nintendo DS handheld.
“The Geometry Wars: Galaxies video game is an entertaining title blending old-school arcade fun with next-gen gameplay and action,” said Al Simone, Sierra’s SVP of Global Marketing, in a statement. “We are excited to bring the Geometry Wars brand to the Nintendo platform as both the Wii and DS enable a fun and frenetic experience for gamers.”
Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved has been a hit amongst Xbox 360 owners on Xbox Live Arcade; however, the new Geometry Wars: Galaxies title will be developed by Kuju Entertainment exclusively for the Nintendo platforms and include a full version of Retro Evolved. The Galaxies game will enable players to defend entire solar systems from waves of alien invaders, using both new and classic Battle Grids. The game controls will be optimized for the Wii Remote and Nunckuck as well as the DS’s touchscreen.
Galaxies will also offer hot-seat, co-op, simultaneous, and head-to-head multiplayer modes; users who own both the Wii and Nintendo DS will be able to link the games together via Wi-Fi to unlock additional content.
Sierra hasn’t released any pricing information or offered dates when Geometry Wars: Galaxies will ship, but it’s probably safe to assume the company would like to the game to be on the market in time for the end-of-year holiday buying season.
