Gateway Intros Two New Widescreen Giants

Gateway Intros Two New Widescreen Giants

Gateway’s newest additions to its monitor line may not quite be as large as the 30-inch Extreme HD display it introduced earlier this month, but for normal folks who like their monitors to be smaller than their TVs, they’re still pretty large. The company announced its 22- and 24-inch HD Widescreen displays on Thursday, touting not only their size but also resolution and response times.

The 24-inch FHD2400 boasts full high-def resolution of 1900 x 1200, blurring the line between gigantic monitors and small 1080p HDTVs. In addition to its normal DVI-D connector for computers, it also has an HDCP input to accommodate for high-def sources. Other bells and whistles include a rotating stand that allows the screen to pivot 178 degrees, and software that will automatically adjust the image when switching between landscape and portrait views. The same software also provides advanced options for color calibration, and Gateway claims its LCD panel can display 92 percent of the color gamut.

The smaller-but-still-massive 22-inch HD2200 offers 1680 x 1050 resolution, which means it can display 720p HD video. Like its larger brother, its stand swivels 160 degrees, and it gets the same Gateway EzTune software.

Both monitors are already for sale via Gateway’s Web site and select electronics retailers. The FHD2400 goes for $549.99, with an optional speaker bar for $49.99. The HD2200 sells for $349.99, with its speaker bar coming in at $39.99.

Security experts warn of new hacker strategy targeting Windows drivers
hacker, cybersecurity

As if there weren't enough threats to your Windows computer already, here is another one to be careful with. Kaspersky reports that tens of thousands of compromised PCs are infected as cybercriminals advertise fake activators and cracks to lure in unsuspecting users for distinct software such as AutoCAD, JetBrains, and Foxit PDF Editor.

The malicious package named SteelFox has been quietly spreading since February 2023, but its distribution has exploded recently. The malware is dispersed using torrent trackers and forums, where it is used as a tool to activate authentic versions of the previously mentioned software.

AMD Ryzen 5 9600X is now almost $50 cheaper than it was two months ago
The AMD Ryzen 5 9600X between two finger tips.

AMD's Zen 5 processors are still fresh out of the oven -- they were only released a little over two months ago. As they struggle to find their footing among some of the best processors, they've been getting discounted regularly ever since, and that certainly helps. Today's deals bring the Ryzen 5 9600X down by nearly $50 when compared to its recommended list price.

The Ryzen 5 9600X is the most budget-friendly chip in the new lineup. It started out with a recommended price (MSRP) of $280, which is $10 less than its predecessor.  That adjustment was nice to see, but the 9600X was still much pricier than the 7600X upon launch, as the Zen 4 chip received numerous price cuts since it first hit the shelves. Right now, it's priced at $225, but I've seen it sell for much less.
