Microsoft and 343 Industries releases Halo: Spartan Assault for the Xbox 360 on January 31. It may not be the highly anticipated next chapter of Master Chief’s adventures, but it is more Halo for fans to dive into, even if it switches from first-person shooting to twin-stick action.
The game is essentially the same as the one that was released in 2013 for Windows 8 platforms, with a few extras like bonus missions and online co-op. If you’d like a closer look at how it plays, check out our review. One of the problems we had with the initial release related to the controls. Our big gripe was that there was only support for keyboard/mouse inputs, an odd choice for a style of game that is typically built around a pair of thumbsticks. That isn’t an issue with the 360 version.
In addition to the online co-op play and extra missions, the game features new achievements and a couple of other extras. There are more than 30 missions with the addition of the “Operation Hydra” expansion that was DLC for the initial release. It’ll run $14.99 for most people, but those that purchased it for a Windows 8 machine can pick it up for $4.99.
If you are a fan of Halo and can’t wait for more Halo-y action, this is your chance to jump back into the world. So what are you waiting for?
