An $85,000 Cell Phone Bill

An $85,000 Cell Phone BillMany of us have had cell phone bills that are higher than we’d like, but few (if any) can watch Canadian Piotr Staniaszek, who was stunned when he opened the envelope to discover he owed $65,00CDN ($63,800 US).   It turns out that he misinterpreted the Bell Mobility $10 unlimited browser plan, believing that meant he could use it as a modemfor his computer. So he downloaded HD movies and plenty of other large files, believing he was getting a bargain.   At least, until he received his bill.   When he spoke to the company, thinking they’d made a mistake, he was told that his total, after more downloading, was now up to $85k CDN ($83,500 US). As a goodwill gesture, it was lowered to $3,243 ($3,143 US), butStaniaszek plans to fight the charges, according to the Toronto Globe and Mail.   When he renewed his contract, Staniaszek received a new phone withthe unlimited browser plan.   "I told them I wasn’t aware I would be charged for hooking up my phone to the computer. I’m going to try and fight it, because I didn’t know about the extracharges…” he told CBC News. "The thing is, they’ve cut my phone off for being like $100 over. Here, I’m $85,000 over and nobody bothered to giveme a call and tell me what was going on."

A new OnePlus phone just leaked with a ridiculous battery spec
OnePlus Nord 4 Midnight black with metal back held in hand.

A new phone from OnePlus is on the horizon, and it should attract lots of attention thanks to its purported battery capacity. The OnePlus Ace 5V is expected to join the OnePlus Ace 5 and Ace 5 Pro in the Chinese market. It may also be launched internationally as the OnePlus Nord 5, according to GSMArena.

The OnePlus Ace 5V is anticipated to feature a substantial 7,000mAh battery capacity. In comparison, the forthcoming OnePlus 13 and OnePlus 13R will likely have battery capacities of 6,000mAh. By contrast, two of the bestselling phones on the market, the iPhone 16 Pro Max and Galaxy S24 Ultra, offer battery capacities of 4,685mAh and 5,000mAh, respectively.

A special battery makes this new phone different from others
The Honor Magic7 Lite's colors.

According to Honor, the new Magic7 Lite has a special, industry-first battery inside it, making it slightly more interesting than your average midrange smartphone. But what is new about it? The Magic7 Lite has a silicon-carbon battery instead of the more common lithium-ion battery, which allows for a greater capacity without increasing physical size.

The Magic7 Lite’s silicon-carbon battery has a whopping 6,600mAh capacity, and Honor estimates this will return nearly 26 hours of video playback on a single charge. It will also reliably operate in both hot and cold environments. Using its AI technology, Honor’s software will squeeze a 50-minute call out of the remaining 2% of the battery, which will make it useful in emergency situations. Using silicon can also assist with efforts to reduce the use of fossil fuels.
