Nvidia Rolls Out 3-Way SLI

Graphics developer Nvidia is known for producing high performance—and high-priced—computer video systems, but hardcore action gamers have taken a shine to the company’s SLI technology, which enables gamers to apply the processing torque of two high-end graphics cards to their display, providing high resolution, high frame-rate action on their favorite titles. Ever mindful of extreme gamers’ needs, Nvidia has decided to up the ante, extending its SLI technology to enable gamers to tap up to three GeForce graphics cards.

“The new crop of PC games offers stunning visuals,” said Nvidia’s GeForce desktop GPU general manager Ujesh Desai, in a statement. “And for truly immersive game play with all the eye candy you need to play on a PC with a lot of graphics horse power. Three-way SLI produces stunning visuals, pristine image quality, and a truly awesome gaming experience.”

Three-way SLI operates via an Nvidia nForce 680 SLI MCP motherboard and three GeForce GTX or GEForce 8800 Ultra graphics cards. Combined the system offers 382 stream processors, a 110+ gigatexel/sec texture fill rate, and over two GB of video memory. Maxed out, the system enables gamers to experience new graphics intensive titles like Call of Duty 4,Enemy Territory: Quake Wars, and Unreal Tournament 3 at the highest available resolution, with all graphics settings cranked up, and across-the-board antialiasing.

A list of PC system builders and 3-way SLI certified components is available from Nvidia’s SLIZone site. Just don’t expect all that pixel-pushing to come cheap!

3 new games on Steam to check out this weekend (June 7-9)
A scary clown with some sort of puppet gun in Killer Klowns from Outer Space.

This weekend will be full of new game trailers and content shown at Summer Games Fest and other gaming showcases, but don't let the new announcements distract you from the great games that just came out. While the waiting time between new console game releases can seem to drag on forever sometimes, new games are always released on Steam.

If you need a game to jump into between showcases this weekend and want to try something new, here are three recently released games on Steam that are worth checking out based on initial reviews. The first game is a retro platformer with a challenging but fun twist. The second entry is a modern asymmetrical survival horror game based on a cult classic sci-fi film from the '80s. And lastly, we've got an online sandbox survival title that's making waves in early access.

The Witcher 3 REDkit is out and it makes modding easier than ever
Geralt from The Witcher 3 and his horse Roach.

Modders got some good news on Tuesday with the release of The Witcher 3 REDkit, a free tool that Witcher developer CD Projekt Red says will allow people to edit "almost everything within the game."

REDkit was developed mainly by Yigsoft, a developer that's worked alongside CD Projekt Red on The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077. According to a blog post, the tool is similar to ones used to create The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt (although REDkit's store page notes that "achieving the full scope of development akin to the original creators may require access to external tools"). The post also says that more tutorials and documentation will be unveiled soon, but people who want to hop in immediately can do so. The REDkit is now free to download on Steam, GOG.com, and the Epic Games Store.
