Maxis’ Spore to Launch Sept. 7

Maxis

Maxis Software’s much-hyped “Sim Everything” title, known as Spore, finally received a firm release date on Wednesday. The simulated universe title will launch for PC, Mac, Nintendo DS and mobile phones the weekend of September 7.

“The wait is almost over,” said Maxis chief designer Will Wright, in a statement. “We’re in our final stages of testing and polish with Spore, and the team at Maxis can’t wait to see the cosmos of content created by the community later this year.”

Spore goes further than any of Maxis’ previous Sim-style title by allowing players to build their own universes, guiding creatures all the way from a primordial ooze type of environment up to refined space travel. Along the way, they’ll create tribes, civilizations, and change entire worlds. Besides working as the chief designer for Spore, Wright cofounded Maxis in the late 1980’s and was the driving force behind both SimCity and The Sims.
