Apple Takes Big Apple To Court

Apple Takes Big Apple To Court

Yes, Apple is one of the world’s biggest brands – bust is it more recognizable that the Big Apple? That’s the question that’s at the heart of a conflict between the computer and gadget maker and New York.   Apple is claiming that the logo for the city’s Green NYC campaign infringes on its copyright, because it shows an apple design with a leaf and stalk, Wired has reported. When New York tried to trademark the logo last year, Apple objected. That brought a counterclaim from NYC, asking that Apple’s claim be dismissed.   It’s anticipated that everything will be settled – but not for about nine months. Reportedly, the next move will be to survey people’s reactions to the NYC Green logo and judge it against Apple’s claim in mall-stop surveys.   The iCompany is claiming that the city’s logo will "seriously injure the reputation which [Apple] has established for its goods and services."

Apple’s smart display might aesthetically revive the iconic iMac G4
Apple iMac G4 desktop computer.

Apple’s foray into the smart display segment is eagerly anticipated, and if Bloomberg’s numerous reports are anything go by, we could see the first entry hit the shelves as early as 2025. Now, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, in the latest edition of his PowerOn newsletter, reports that the upcoming machine could borrow some inspiration from the legendary iMac G4.

“The screen is positioned at an angle on a small base, making it reminiscent of the circular bottom ... from a couple of decades ago,” Gurman writes.

Hackers take control of robovacs and use them to yell slurs
The Ecovacs T20 Omni docked in a living room.

The machines might one day rise against us, but for now, it's probably just a bored teenager. ABC News reported that Ecovacs Deebot X2 owners in multiple cities were victims of a cyberattack that resulted in someone taking control of their robot vacuums to yell hateful language at families and harass animals.

The hacks took place in May of this year in El Paso, Texas, Los Angeles, and Minnesota. When ABC spoke with Daniel Swenson, one of those affected, he said that a staticky sound erupted from his robovac. He said it sounded like a "broken-up radio signal," but that snippets of a voice could be heard. After resetting the device, the voice came back again and sounded like a teenager yelling racial slurs. Rather than reset the robovac again, Swenson turned it off.
