Averatec Drops Laptops for Laptop Droppers

Averatec Drops Laptops for Laptop Droppers

For those who can’t quite seem to keep their laptops out of harm’s ways, Averatec released the Voya 4400 and 6400 series semi-rugged laptops on Tuesday. Both notebooks offer extra durability features to help cope with the occasional drop or spill, including some derived from military specifications.

Under their tough exteriors, the Voyas run more-or-less average hardware. The 14.1-inch 4400 gets loaded out with an Intel Core Duo T2080 running at 1.73Ghz, 1GB of DDR2 RAM, and a 120GB hard drive. Its bigger sibling, the 15.4-inch 6400, sports a faster Intel Core 2 Duo T7500 processor at 2.2GHz, 2GB of DDR2 RAM, and a 250GB SATA drive.

The laptops’ identical durability upgrades include spill-resistant keyboards and touchpads, magnesium alloy outer cases, and military-grade drop and vibration resistance. Both machines pick up a little extra weight for the effort, with the 4400 weighing in at 5.7 pounds and the 6400 hitting 6.4 pounds.

Full pricing for the computers hasn’t yet been announced, but according to Electronista, the new Voyas will start at $1300.

But maybe you don't love macOS. Or maybe you're just an Apple hater. Either way, I feel ya. Fortunately, there are some good choices these days that make for a solid alternative to the M4 MacBook Pro.
