Dell Acknowledges Upcoming Subnotebook

Although this week’s “D: All Things Digital” conference was supposed to focus on chit-chat with industry leaders, Dell CEO Michael Dell craftily managed to half-announce a new product as well when he briefly showed off a new subnotebook to Gizmodo. After a day of the impromptu product shots making their way around the Web, Dell gave it formal nod on Thursday night in the Direct2Dell blog.

Despite the public acknowledgement, Dell managed to add few additional details to the mystery product. The only real information comes from a pair of official product shots for the yet-unnamed notebook, which show it looking mighty small alongside a pencil. Visible features include brightly colored and polished lid, a touchpad, VGA output, an Ethernet jack, audio in and out, and, from Gizmodo’s shots, three USB ports and a cardreader.

Given the timing of the news, many speculate that the new Dell subnotebook will be powered by Intel’s Atom processor. Dell hasn’t hinted at when more news will be forthcoming, but given the finished-looking state of the machine and the quick-to-appear PR shots, coupled with Michael Dell hauling one around, we would guess it’s almost ready to go.

Work, school, play: Here’s what I love most about Dell’s 2-in-1 laptop — $200 off
Dell Inspiron 14 2-in-1 7420 front angled view with keyboard folded under and showing display.

Sometimes, you need a proper laptop with a keyboard, mouse, and a traditional screen. Other times, it works better to have a tablet, with a viable touchscreen to navigate. For example, if I'm typing up a meaty article or report then I want that keyboard. But if I'm waiting some time at the airport, kicking back trying to watch a show or movie, then I want the tablet format. The best part about a 2-in-1 laptop is you get all of that in a single package. You can unfold normally like a laptop, or fold it backward -- convertible style -- to set the computer up like a tablet. You can also do a bunch of other configurations, like standing up the system to prop it up and keep your hands free. Most 2-in-1 laptops are pretty expensive, though. You can find many of these versatile devices in student laptop deals and back to school laptop deals, of course.

Google's Gemini logo with the AI running on a smartphone and a PC.

One of the latest trends in the generative AI space is AI agents, and Google may be prepping its own agent to be a feature of an upcoming Gemini large language model (LLM).

The development, called Project Jarvis, is an AI agent based within the Google Chrome browser that will be able to execute common tasks after being given a short query or command with more independence than before. The inclusion of AI agents in the next Chrome update has the potential to be the biggest overhaul since the browser launched in 2008, according to The Information.

One of the better Dell laptop deals around, this laptop is perfect for general use and also looks super stylish while you’re working in a nearby coffee shop. If that sounds appealing to you, it should. Keep reading and you can learn all about what the Dell XPS 14 has to offer.

Why you should buy the Dell XPS 14
As our Dell XPS 14 review explains, the laptop has a momentous design along with an excellent haptic trackpad and quiet yet cool performance. While it has limited ports and it's usually quite expensive, that’s less of an issue when there’s a $550 discount involved. This particular model has an Intel Core Ultra 7 155H processor, 16GB of memory, and 512GB of SSD storage. Those are all the essentials you could need, although a little part of us would prefer to see 1TB at this price range.
