Audio gear maker JBL has finally taken the wraps off its new Control Now AW loudspeaker series, available both in a black indoor model and a white outdoor model. Available individually to facilitate custom installations, the two-way, dual 4-inch loudspeakers are designed to function as bookshelf, wall-mount, or corner-mount speakers—or even be set up in semi-circles and full loops to provide optimum sound reinforcement throughout a room or area. The unique technology was first demo’d at the 2007 CEDIA show, and is intended to offer a high degree of versatility for custom installers and users looking to add high-quality audio to unusual areas.
The 8 Ohm speakers offer a frequency response from 80 Hz to 30 KHz, and can handle up to 300 Watts at peak, although 150 Watts is a more realistic maximum power. The speakers offer an integrated 2000 Hz crossover that splits duties between the main drivers and the 3/4-inch high-frequency horn, and they sport removable push terminals for hooking up speaker cabling. The units are also available with wall bracket hardware, floor-standing adapters, and adhesive bracket covers. Although the white units are designed for all weather use, JBL warns they aren’t waterproof and should be shielded from rain, snow, and other direct moisture.
The indoor Control Now speakers will carry a suggested retail price of $249 each, while the outdoor versions will be priced at $279 each. Both should be available in late June.
