Imation Debuts its Smallest USB Drive Yet

It seems like just a month ago Imation was announcing that it created an even smaller USB thumb drive – and it was – but it looks like the company has wasted no time in outdoing itself. It announced the Atom flash drive on Wednesday, the definitive smallest drive in its line at just 1.5 inches long.

Imation claims the drive is “roughly the size of a paperclip,” though a more accurate description might be “the size of a stack of paperclips turned on its side.” Unlike the month-old Nano, which claimed its place as the smallest swivel-cap flash drive in Imation’s line-up, the silver-and-black Atom features a more conventional fully removable cap with a small loop for attaching it to lanyards.

The drives will come in 1GB, 2GB, 4GB and 8GB capacities, all of which include built-in password protection and tools for partitioning the drive as needed. They’re also compatible with Vista ReadyBoost, meaning they can be plugged into Vista systems to provide a performance boost by offering an extra memory cache.

Imation’s Atom USB flash drives are available now for between $17.99 and $99.99, depending on capacity.

Looking for a great Android smartwatch? The Google Pixel Watch is Google's response to the Apple Watch and the Samsung Galaxy Watch. With this new kid on the block, Google has inaugurated its own multi-device hardware-software ecosystem with many of the same critical health and safety features.

The Pixel Watch offers Google's software suite, which users can access via LTE or smartphone connection, and incorporates health resources from Fitbit's fitness line. The new watch, which runs Wear OS 3.5, is designed for optimal integration with the Google Pixel 7 and Google Pixel 7 Pro smartphones, which debuted alongside it.

It’s official: Apple is required to make a USB-C iPhone by 2024

The European Parliament today approved a regulation that would mandate a common charger for all electronics sold in the bloc in a bid to reduce e-waste. These include smartphones and tablets. While most smartphones and tablets currently sold in the EU do use USB-C, one particular holdout has been Apple. With this new rule, the next iPhone (or the one after that) will have to ditch Lightning for USB-C, bringing it in line with the iPad Pro and Macbook lines.

While the law only applies in Europe, Apple would have to either design an iPhone specifically for Europe or adopt USB-C worldwide. It's easy to see which path the company's picking, especially with American and Indian politicians making similar legislative noises.

Mobvoi to use Qualcomm’s new chip to make its most powerful smartwatch yet

Mobvoi will use the new Qualcomm Snapdragon W5+ Gen 1 processor in a forthcoming smartwatch. It’s one of just a few brands to officially announce it will adopt Qualcomm’s new chip, which was itself only announced on July 19, but Movoi has stopped short of providing masses of details on the device it will be housed within.

What do we know? Only what Mobvoi has told us at this stage, which is the Snapdragon W5+ Gen 1 chip will be used in a new TicWatch model, and that it will make it the most powerful smartwatch Mobvoi has released yet.
