SouthWing’s SH241 Puts News in Your Ear

Mobile users tend to be the kind of folks who want their news in a hurry and one the go—and what could be better than having the latest headlines and information delivered to you clandestinely through that Bluetooth headset you’re wearing all the time anyway? With SouthWing‘s SH241 Bluetooth Headset, AT&T wireless users can access AT&T’s *8 VoiceInfo service with just a touch of a button, making it easy to get the latest headlines, travel, sports, news, and weather information via any AT&T Bluetooth-capable mobile phone. And, the system is voice-activated, so users can simply speak their selections to tunnel down into the news they want to hear.

“At SouthWing, we believe your voice is everything, and this is another example of delivering on that philosophy,” said SouthWing founder Bart Huisken, in a statement. “By simply pressing the Push4 button on an SH241 headset, users can immediately access important information by speaking their way through menus. They can even make a list of spoken favorites that expedite the process further.”

AT&T’s VoiceInfo service is perhaps better known for its “Instant Alibi” feature, whereby users can arrange a “perfectly timed” rescue call to get out of a meeting or social situation—although it probably doesn’t work with traffic tickets. VoiceInfo can also set up wake-up calls and reminders; the service is free, although per-minute access rates still apply.

The SouthWing SH241 is available now at AT&T retail locations for $39.99.

Move past the unusual rectangular shape and the Honor Watch ES has an equally unusual party trick. Rather than just track your workouts, it has a coaching feature where a tiny, animated fitness coach takes you through a selection of short exercise sessions, showing you exactly what to do and how long to do it. It's like being at the gym with a trainer -- without having to listen to "motivational" commentary when you're sweating away on the 19th rep.

Sounds great when we live in a time when gyms are closed, or you have no wish to visit one, right? Don't get carried away, Honor's Workout Course feature is really for people who've never visited a gym at all.

The uncertain future cost of Apple’s Emergency SOS feature
Person holding iPhone 14 searching for Emergency SOS satellite.

It's been roughly two years since the launch of the iPhone 14 and its Emergency SOS via satellite feature. You might recall that during the first two years, Apple said it would be free to use but that it might require a subscription after that time, according to MacRumors. Last year, Apple extended the time limit by one more year, so you actually have until November 2025, when the trial period ends.

That's good news. The Emergency SOS feature is, quite literally, lifesaving. During April of this year, three university students lost their way in a canyon and used the feature to call for help. Another story arose in July where the feature came through once more in a moment of crisis. And if you keep digging, you'll find numerous other examples of how this tech is truly beneficial.
