When it comes to GPS units, sometimes it’s all about the screen size: nothing is worse than knowing you have perfect directions in front of you, but having to lean forward and squint while driving to try to figure out where you’re going. Nextar wants to ease that pain, announcing new SNAP5 and SNAP7 GPS units that sport 5- and 7-inch touchscreen displays, respectively, along with photo and music capabilities and Tele Atlas maps of the U.S. and Canada.
"With the addition of these two models, our slim SNAP navigation systems line offers displays for a wide-range of needs," said Nextar founder Eddy Zheng, in a release. "Slim design, choice of screen size, complete coverage of two countries, and lots of terrific features make our SNAP lineup the perfect solution for the most discriminating buyer."
The new units measure just 0.7 inches thick, and offer integrated stereo speaks and text-to-speech technology for spoken directions in English, Spanish, and French. A 3D mapping mode makes it easier to understand locations, and a night mode activates additional screen lighting for easier viewing. Both units can play MP3 music and display JPEG photos, and media can be loaded via an SD card slot.
Nextar says the SNAP5 and SNAP7 should be available this spring for suggested prices of $299.99 and $349.99, respectively.
