GTA IV Expansion to Feature Biker Gang

GTA IV Expansion to Feature Biker Gang

Delivering on its promise of downloadable content to extend the Grand Theft Auto IV storyline, Rockstar Games has let details of its first expansion slip. The Lost and Damned will deflect the storyline from the game’s original protagonist, Niko Bellic, to focus on Johnny Klebitz, a member of the biker gang The Lost.

According to USA Today, which broke the story, the expansion will still take place in Liberty City, but will explore new portions of the city and offer hours of more game play as Klebitz.

“Johnny is a very different character than Niko, with a very different background,” Rockstar’s vice president of creative development, Dan Houser, told USA Today. He also promises a cameo for Niko in Damned, though, and claims that many of the mysteries from the first game’s story will be explained.

The expansion will launch of Feb. 17 as a download through Xbox Live, where it will remain exclusively thanks to a prior $50 million deal with Microsoft. Pricing has not yet been announced.

Switch Online + Expansion Pack feels like a real deal now
A Nintendo Switch connected to the internet.

Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack just got a huge power-up. During Wednesday’s Nintendo Direct, the company announced that Mario Kart 8 Deluxe would receive new paid DLC in the form of 48 classic courses. The series of updates will keep the ever-popular racing game alive through 2023, ensuring it’ll stay dominant on Switch software sales charts.

The best news? It’ll be available free of charge to anyone who has an Expansion Pack subscription. No need to spend an additional $25.

Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack shows the joy of short games
Nintendo 64 console and games.

Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack is now available, giving Switch owners access to a small library of Nintendo 64 and Sega Genesis games for a hefty price. It's not a particularly good deal, as the Nintendo 64 app only includes nine games currently, including some truly left-field picks. A lack of button remapping options also makes certain games a nightmare to play unless you buy a wireless Nintendo 64 controller.

Regardless of how strong the deal is, I decided to check it out for myself. I didn’t have a Nintendo 64 growing up and only played the biggest hits as they were ported to other consoles. I’ve played Super Mario 64 and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time several times each on a variety of platforms, but most of the games included in Expansion Pack were totally new to me, making it a slightly more valuable deal.

Switch Online + Expansion Pack’s pricing gives the service too much credit
Playing games via Nintendo Switch Online.

I don't pay for online services anymore. Not frequently, anyways, since almost all of my online gaming is done on my PC. If I'm getting a new co-op game or multiplayer shooter, it's exclusively going to end up in my Steam library, because I don't have to shell out a single extra cent to properly play the game.

But I can still at least acknowledge that some online services are worth the $60 they charge each year. Xbox Gold gives players free games, and so does PlayStation+. Nintendo Switch Online, on the other hand, has never felt worth the $20, and now Nintendo's asking players for $50 for the service's upgraded version, Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack. I'm not sure if the company has been listening to its users for the past three years.
