BioWare Announces Mass Effect Sequel

BioWare Announces Mass Effect Sequel

Back in 2007 Microsoft and BioWare launched Mass Effect, an immersive scifi role playing game that was intended to offer an intense gaming experience, but also engage players emotionally in the game’s characters and story—including a a controversial (although off-screen and non-interactive) girl-on-girl love scene that managed to get the game banned in Singapore. Now BioWare has announced Mass Effect 2, promising more-intense combat, in-depth planet exploration, expanded weaponry…and, of course, an engaging story that will emotionally involve players in the game.

“We’re going to surpass the extraordinary gaming experience we brought our fans in Mass Effect,” said BioWare CEO and Electronic Arts VP Dr. Ray Muzyka, in a statement. “Mass Effect 2 is shaping up to be an unforgettable RPG-shooter experience, taking players on a non-stop roller-coaster ride filled with stunning plot twists and no-holds-barred action.”

The cast of characters in Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy.

The Guardians of the Galaxy are the latest Marvel heroes to get a video game adaptation. Square Enix revealed Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy at its E3 livestream today, and it's coming to PlayStation 4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC on October 26.

The game is being developed by Eidos-Montréal, the studio best known for its work on the Deus Ex franchise. The new superhero title is a third-person action game based on the popular comic book franchise, and it focuses on combat and branching dialogue options.
Comparisons to Marvel's Avengers
On its surface, the game might seem similar to Marvel’s Avengers with its third-person combat. The comparisons mostly end there. This is explicitly a single-player game with no post-launch content or DLC planned. It doesn’t seem to feature loot or gear grinding either. Instead, it’s a more straightforward adventure where players control Star-Lord, who can rack up combos with a mix of gunplay and melee attacks.
