Nine Inch Nails App Rejected By Apple

In some ways it makes no sense. Apple’s App Store has rejected an app from Nine Inch Nails that allows the download of the band’s song The Downward Spiral, a well-known piece of work, and one the same company happily sells via iTunes.

It’s all about the content, which includes the notorious F word, which would seem to go against the rules for applications.

Unsurprisingly, Trent Reznor, the man who really is NiN, wasn’t happy, although he remains an ardent fan of the iPhone. In the NiN forum he wrote:

"How does that make sense? You can buy ‘The Downward ****ing Spiral’ on iTunes, but you can’t allow an iPhone app that may have a song with a bad word somewhere in it."

The feature was found via 9to5Google in some strings in version 4.2.20241001.701169069 of the Pixel Recorder app.

An update to WhatsApp will reportedly end support for iPhone operating system versions prior to iOS 15.1, which Apple released in 2021. It means that anyone using WhatsApp on an iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, or iPhone 6 Plus will have to get a newer iPhone to continue using the messaging service, or ditch the app for another one.

The good news is that there’s plenty of time to decide upon a solution, as support for these older iPhones isn’t set to end until May 5, 2025, according to WABetaInfo, which first reported the development.

The first time I witnessed the challenges of disability was when I started college in 2016. My hostel mates came from across Asia and Africa, pursuing different career paths and hobbies, each with their own cultural identity and lived experiences.

Back then, an entire wing of my hostel was dedicated to blind students and peers with limited vision. Running into them in the alleys, en route to the dining halls, or toward the college — and guiding them to their destination, hand in hand — quickly became a daily routine.
