Motorola introduces the $130 Moto E, and adds 4G LTE to the Moto G

Check out our written Motorola Moto E review.

Motorola has revealed the Moto E smartphone, the phone it previously teased as a device for everyone, at a special international event. It has also shown a spin-off of the Moto G, which has 4G LTE connectivity and a MicroSD card slot, that will be sold alongside the original Moto G in the range.

Let’s take a look at the Moto E. This is a low to mid-range smartphone, so don’t expect the specs to melt your brain, they’re not going to. The screen measures 4.3-inches, and the resolution is 960 x 540 pixels, returning an acceptable pixel density of 256ppi. A 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 processor powers the little phone, along with 1GB of RAM, and there’s a tiny 4GB of internal storage memory.

Luckily, the Moto E is equipped with a MicroSD card slot, so you won’t be left hurting for space, plus there’s 3G, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth 4.0. The rear camera has 5-megapixels, but selfie fans are going to be upset, as there is no forward facing camera lens fitted to the phone. Going back to the good news, the Moto E has a water resistant nano coating, and the screen is covered in Gorilla Glass, plus the Android 4.4.2 operating system is free from a custom interface, and is guaranteed updates for the near future. A selection of twenty different rear covers in various colors will let you customize the look of your Moto E too.

Motorola is serious when it says the Moto E will be for everyone. The phone will cost $130 when it’s released later this month, which is $50 cheaper than the Moto G when it first arrived on the scene. In the UK, the Moto E has been priced at £90. The company will also produce dual-SIM versions for international markets, and the phone is expected to be sold throughout America and in the UK, along with Brazil and India.

The new Moto G is identical to the existing G in all but two ways. It now has 4G LTE connectivity, and Motorola has added a MicroSD card slot to give the internal memory a boost. Like the Moto E, it will be on sale before the end of the month, and has been given a price of $220 in the U.S. and £150 in the UK.

Motorola will sell the Moto E and the 4G Moto G through its own online store, without a contract, and the phone will also be available in 40 different countries around the world, and on 80 different networks. We’re still waiting to hear an exact release date, although some countries will see the phone later this week. We’ll update with more news here as it’s made available.
