Western Digital has unveiled two new additions to its MyPassport Essential SE line of portable USB hard drives: 750 and 1 TB editions. The 1 TB edition represents the top capacity for a portable hard drive, and Western Digital claims to be the first manufacturer to ship a 1 TB portable drive.
“The enormous capacity of these new My Passport Essential SE drives makes them the perfect travel-friendly storage device to hold all the rich media content generated by higher resolution photos and HD videos and music,” WD branded products group marketing VP Dale Pistilli, in a statement.
The My Passport SE drives sport USB 2.0 connectivity and power off the bus so there’s no need for a separate power adapter; they also ship with encryption and synchronization software (for Windows only), and the drives feature a silver titanium finish. The drives measure just 3.1 inches long, 5 inches wide, and 0.6 inches deep; they weigh just over 6.3 ounces.
The drives are available now, with the 750 GB model going for $199.99 and the 1 TB model going for $299.99. The drives are also available in 250, 320, 400, and 500 GB capacities.
