Dimples are cute, but for Android phones they can be quite functional too. Dimple.io, a company with a self-confessed soft spot for tactile buttons, has created the Dimple, an NFC sticker with buttons that can be customized to perform a variety of actions with a compatible Android phone (e.g., launch an app, snap a quick photo, control music, make a call, turn on the flashlight, execute a Tasker-driven function, etc.).
The stickers can be placed on the back of your Android phone or tablet (though some tablets allow for front placement) and come in four-button (standard) and two-button (mini) versions. The Dimple standard is priced at $27, and the Dimple mini is priced at $17. The companion app for the Dimple, which is required to get the buttons working, is free.
Dimple.io notes that the stickers are waterproof and as thin as five human hairs stacked on top of each other. Multiple Dimple stickers can be used with one device.
While the beta prototype was originally limited to gray, violet and white, the Dimple will now be available in six more colors: black, baby blue, pink and three colors to be determined by the company’s Indiegogo supporters.
Speaking of which, Dimple.io’s Indiegogo campaign began on May 6, and it’s already exceeded its goal of $43,000. With 17 days to go (the campaign closes on June 20 at 11:59 p.m. PDT), Dimple.io has raised more than $64,000 thanks to more than 2,000 funders.
The six additional colors come as part of the campaign fulfilling its first two stretch goals of $45,000 and $55,000. Next up: Dimple.io’s $70,000 stretch goal, which if realized will open up the door for TPU cases (dark gray, blue and red) that come with two embedded Dimple buttons. The cases, priced at $23, would be compatible with the Galaxy S4, Galaxy S5, Nexus 5, HTC One M8 and HTC One M7.
Shipments of the Dimple are slated to start around the beginning of August. The TPU cases would start shipping in September.
