Quentin Tarantino’s formerly canceled western The Hateful Eight may indeed be back on again, with much of its cast already lined up and shooting reportedly beginning in November.
According to Showbiz 411, the cast of a recent live reading of the script will reprise their roles for the film when production begins in Wyoming later this year. The script follows a group of bounty hunters who are forced to take refuge from a storm in a haberdashery, only to get caught up in a web of deceit, violence, and Tarantino’s favorite cornucopia of dark intentions.
Tarantino hosted a live reading of the script last month in Los Angeles that featured actors Samuel L Jackson, Bruce Dern, Michael Madsen, Kurt Russell, James Remar, Amber Tamblyn, Walt Goggins, and Zoe Bell.
The future of The Hateful Eight was thrown into limbo earlier this year when a leaked version of the script was posted online and Tarantino responded by canceling the film altogether. After initially filing a lawsuit against Gawker for posting the leaked script, Tarantino eventually withdrew the suit, but insisted that the film was no longer going to happen. Apparently, the recent live reading of the script was well-received enough to make him reconsider.
Tarantino recently addressed the script leak during the Cannes Film Festival, saying he had “calmed down” after the incident, and was working on a second rewrite of the script.
It’s worth noting that two-time Oscar winner Christoph Waltz, who played significant roles in both Inglourious Basterds and Django Unchained, doesn’t appear to have a role in The Hateful Eight at this point.
