Just about any two LCD displays can play nicely together with the right monitor arm, but fitting two separate monitors to piece of steel can sometimes produce a cobbled-together monstrosity that looks like Neo should be reading streams of binary off of it in The Matrix. EVGA set out to solve that problem with the InterView 1700, a unified dual-display solution from one box.
A T-shaped central spine holds two 17-inch displays – one to either side. Because they’re supported by the edge, rather than from the back, they can each swivel 180 degrees in place, potentially allowing one to be used from one side while someone else works from the other. They also swing in and out like wings to accommodate different viewing angles.
Short of the innovative stand, monitor specs aren’t anything to gawk over: WXGA+ (1440 x 900) resolution on each screen, 500:1 contrast ratios, 8ms response times, and 220 CD/m2 brightness. But then again, the gaming and movie crowd will probably opt for a single, larger screen. These guys are for productivity. There are also three built-in USB ports, a 1.3-megapixel webcam and microphone on board, too, for the occasional videoconferencing.
Getting two monitors and a stand in one box won’t get you much of a discount: EVGA priced the InterView 1700 at $650, which could easily score most bargain shoppers two solo 17-inchers and a stand. They just won’t look this slick. More information is available at EVGA.
