Update 10/25/14 5:31 p.m. by Konrad Krawczyk: Best Buy is selling the base model 13-inch MacBook Air for $150 less lately, which the retailer is now offering for $850. Meanwhile, The Web-based Apple Store sells the same notebook for $1,000.

This version of the 13-inch Air packs an Intel Core i5 1.4GHz dual-core CPU, 4GB of RAM, a 128GB PCI-Express SSD, and an Intel HD Graphics 5000 integrated GPU. It weighs 2.96 pounds, making it one of the lightest notebooks you can get your hands on.

Several months ago, Best Buy was selling the 11-inch MacBook Air for as low as $650. That discount amounted to $250 in savings over Cupertino’s asking price.

Apple is widely expected to unveil a 12-inch MacBook Air at some point between now, and early 2015. This unannounced device is rumored to be fan-less, ultra-thin, and have a super high resolution Retina display.

Original story

School is either out or about to be out for most (unless you’re one of those poor saps taking summer classes), but if your laptop is on the fritz or a little long in the tooth, you can start to get ahead in your studies for the upcoming Fall semester by jumping on a deal for MacBook Air laptops that Best Buy is offering right now.

If you head over to this Best Buy page, you can enter your student email address at the top. Once you do, hit the green arrow button to the right of the box where you enter your email address, and you should get a coupon code in your inbox that, that, once applied, cuts $150 off a selection of MacBook Air notebooks. The discount also applies to iMac desktops, and MacBook Pro laptops as well. You can peruse Best Buy’s selection of Apple desktops and laptops here.

The best deal is arguably the one you can get for the 2014 11.6-inch MacBook Air, which Best Buy already cuts by $100 to $799.99 (Apple sells it from their website for $899.99). By stacking the $150 student coupon code on top of that $100 discount, you can slash Apple’s cheapest (and newest) MacBook Air to $649.99. That savings amounts of $250. Can you say, cha-ching? By the way, we just tested the code out for ourselves, and it works.

The 2014 11.6-inch MacBook Air features 1366×768 display resolution, a 1.4GHz Intel Core i5 CPU with a Turbo Boost clock of 2.7GHz, 4GB of RAM, a 128GB SSD, and Intel HD Graphics 5000. This is a member of Apple’s refreshed lineup of MacBook Airs, which the company introduced in late April. However, it’s worth noting that, according to some tests, the 2014 MacBook Air’s SSDs are significantly slower than the SSDs found in the 2013 models. On the other hand, we doubt that this performance hit will be felt by most MacBook Air users in day to day use.

It’s unclear to us when this promotion expires, so if you’re in the market for a new laptop or desktop, you should get in on this ASAP.

MacBook Pro M4 teardown shows a repairability rut for Apple laptops
The MacBook Pro 16-inch on a table.

The updated slate of MacBook Pros, powered by the M4 series silicon, has once again established Appleā€™s performance dominance in the segment. However, a teardown courtesy of the folks over at iFixit has confirmed that not much has changed internally, which means the usual repairability snags are still here.

Starting with the new elements this time around, Apple engineers seem to have redesigned the logic board, increasing the heatsink size and shifting a few component locations. The ports are easy to replace on the new laptop, and the battery is repair-friendly as well.

Hurry! The M4 MacBook Pro just got an unheard of discount
Someone using a MacBook Pro at a desk.

The 2024 MacBook Pro with M4 chip hasn't even been out for a month, but it already has its first major discount. Amazon just knocked $200 off the 14-inch configuration, dropping the price to $1,399 from $1,599. While a $200 discount on a MacBook isn't world-shattering, the fact that this laptop is so new makes this an unheard of deal. Let's dive into some other noteworthy aspects of this sale.

Why you should buy the MacBook Pro M4
This specific configuration of the M4 Pro has a 10-core CPU, 10-core GPU, 16GB of RAM and 512GB of SSD storage. The 16GB of RAM is particularly noteworthy, as it's the new standard for Apple. That makes this a better deal than some of the M3 models with 8GB of RAM. This model of course comes with Apple's signature Liquid Retina XDR display on its 14.2-inch screen, and it's ready for Apple Intelligence.

MacBook Pro 16 vs. MacBook Pro 14: here’s which M4 you should buy
The MacBook Pro 16-inch on a table.

MacBook Pros are some of the best laptops money can buy. With the M4 chip now onboard, these laptops have never been so powerful, and the update brings some interesting upgrades, such as the improved 12-megapixel webcam and brighter screen. They're the best MacBooks that have ever been made, and it's a perfect time to pick one up based on upgrade timing.

But just because the entire MacBook Pro lineup is better now, that doesn't mean it's any easier to choose between the two size options that are available. Despite the fact that they include many of the same features, the 14-inch MacBook Pro and 16-inch MacBook Pro feel like entirely different systems due to their contrast in size.
