Honda has released the Civic Black Edition to the U.K., and its undeniably sinister.
The special-edition Civic, as you may have deduced, is completely blacked out from the roof down. All painted surfaces, including the body panels, mirrors, side skirts, wheels, and spoiler have been given the supervillain treatment. In fact, the only non-black surfaces on the car are the lights.
The Civic comes with two engine choices: a 1.6-liter i-DTEC diesel unit making 118 horsepower and 211 pound-feet of torque, or a 1.8-liter i-VTEC engine that produces 140 ponies. The engines are unchanged from the standard Civic powerplants, so don’t expect a performance boost to go with your mischievous attitude.
Still, Honda believes customers will appreciate that the engineering staples of Honda Motoring are alive and well in the Black Edition. According to Leon Brannan, Head of Cars at Honda U.K., the car “delivers the same versatility, refinement and efficiency which Civic customers want but with even further standout appeal.”
Despite all the extra goodies, Honda is committed to keeping the price down. “Once again we are doing all we can to bring down the cost of ownership for our customers with some very competitive offers on the ever-popular Civic,” Brannan continued.
The new Honda is exclusive to the UK at the moment, and it is offered with monthly payments starting at £249, with a £500 deposit contribution and 0 percent APR. The Japanese manufacturer is also offering a comprehensive care plan, which includes five years of servicing, warranty, and roadside assistance for a fixed price of £555.
We haven’t heard any plans to bring the Black Edition Civic stateside, so it looks like we’ll have to settle for the Si in the US. There is a petition to bring the Type R to the U.S., however…
