As reported by the franchise’s most famous star, Arnold Schwarzenegger, the fifth installment of the series will be titled Terminator: Genisys.
Schwarzenegger revealed the title on his Facebook page in a message accompanying a photo of himself on the set (embedded below). In the message, Schwarzenegger thanked the cast and crew on the film, and promised “I’ll be back.”
“Hasta la vista, baby. I want to thank the cast and crew of Terminator Genisys for a fantastic shoot,” he wrote. “It was challenging, it was fun, and it was rewarding. From our director to the producers, from the camera team to catering, from visual effects to hair and makeup – we couldn’t have done it without you. I can’t wait to see our finished project and I know we’ll remind the fans why they fell in love with the Terminator. On July 1, 2015, I’ll be back.”
Details are scarce regarding the plot of the film, which will have Schwarzenegger reprise his role as a robotic T-800 “Terminator” assassin. The actor hinted that he’ll be playing a robot for which the human tissue layered over his metal skeleton has aged. Casting for the film would seem to indicate that the film is a wholesale reboot, with 27-year-old Game Of Thrones actress Emilia Clarke playing Sarah Conner and 45-year-old Dawn of the Planet of the Apes actor Jason Clarke as John Connor, Sarah’s son in the previous franchise — although, given the time-travel elements of the series thus far, anything is possible.
Along with Emilia and Jason Clarke, Schwarzenegger is joined in the film’s cast by former Doctor Who star Matt Smith, and Spartacus actor Jai Courtney, among other notable cast members. The film is directed by Alan Taylor (Thor: The Dark World) and hits theaters July 1, 2015.
