The tremendous success of Captain America: The Winter Soldier earlier this year made a third film a certainty, and the return of both the directors of The Winter Soldier (Anthony and Joe Russo) and the franchise’s writers for the follow-up installment has fans even more excited for whatever comes next in the story of Marvel’s star-spangled Avenger. In a recent interview, one of the film’s writers reiterated his desire to get a certain fan-favorite floating head into the series in some form.

Discussing the characters that didn’t make the cut for The Winter Soldier, screenwriter Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely told SFX that it wasn’t too difficult to bring classic Captain America foe Batroc the Leaper (played by MMA fighter Georges St-Pierre) to the live-action universe, but a character like the weird, recurring villain M.O.D.O.K. — a giant head encased in a robotic, flying suit — might prove a little more difficult. That hasn’t stopped Markus from campaigning for the character in each film, though.

“There are people that I’m always wanting to bring in,” said Markus. “I want to put M.O.D.O.K. into something, but you can’t just drop a giant floating head in! It’s not like ‘Oh, we have to go talk to this guy – there’s something I should tell you about him first…’ Suddenly the whole movie needs to take on that structure in order to accommodate him. I never win that fight!”

“But you will never rest,” added McFeely.

Created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby and first appearing in a 1967 issue of Tales of Suspense, M.O.D.O.K. is a supervillain that has fought with Captain America on numerous occasions over the decades. A mutated scientist who once worked for the organization Advanced Idea Mechanics (which was introduced to Marvel’s cinematic universe in Iron Man 3), M.O.D.O.K. eventually becomes one of the group’s most potent weapons and its occasional leader. His name is an acronym for “Mental Organism Designed Only for Killing” (the “M” has stood for “Mental,” “Mobile,” or “Mechanized” at various points in his history).

Markus, who has co-written both Captain America films so far with McFeely and will return for the third installment, has a well-established history as a fan of M.O.D.O.K., going so far as to suggest in 2011 that Game Of Thrones actor Peter Dinklage could be the perfect choice for the character.

The likelihood of seeing M.O.D.O.K. in future installments of the Captain America franchise remains slim, but you can’t fault Markus for keeping up his campaign — or his fellow M.O.D.O.K. fans (myself included) for keeping hope alive.

The sequel to Captain America: The Winter Soldier is scheduled to hit theaters May 6, 2016.

Are you ready to get Glicked this weekend? No, I didn't call you a dirty name, that's the actual moniker being used for the simultaneous release of Wicked and Gladiator II. I'm content to stay in this weekend and queue up a good movie (or three) on Netflix. Feel the same way? Well, here's a handy list of a few underrated movies that are worth your time. You can always watch Glicked later in the year ... or never, if that's more your vibe.

A man holds a gun in Out of the Furnace.

Are you ready for Glicked? Yes, that's the actual nickname for the simultaneous release of Gladiator 2 and Wicked this weekend. Hollywood is hoping for another bountiful Barbenheimer box office bonanza (say that three times fast), and if the tracking is correct, they are going to get it. Expect tons of crowds at movie theaters this weekend.

If you're like me and hate people, er, crowds, then don't worry, I've got you covered. You can stay in and enjoy some films that have been overlooked. I've assembled a list of three underrated movies that are streaming on Max right now. None of them have the spectacle of Ariana Grande singing in a floating pink bubble or Paul Mescal in a blood-stained toga, but maybe that's a good thing.

Cailee Spaeny aims a gun as David Jonsson stands behind her in a still from the movie Alien: Romulus.

Hulu is never going to have all of the flashy original movies that Netflix has, but it's going to have its share of box office hits now and then. This week, one of last summer's sleeper hits, Alien: Romulus, is making its streaming debut on Hulu. And that film more than earned its place on our weekly list of the three great Hulu movies that you need to stream this weekend.

Our other picks include a period drama that has a great cast, as well a sports comedy from an actress-turned-talk show host.
