The weird saga of Quentin Tarantino’s Hateful Eight has taken yet another unexpected turn with a new report suggesting that the first teaser for the film will appear ahead of next week’s Sin City: A Dame To Kill For. Given that the film hasn’t even begun shooting (and isn’t expected to do so until November), it’s difficult not to wonder what the first teaser for the film will include — and whether this may be the weirdest lead-up to a Tarantino film so far.

The report comes from multiple sources, including the Alberta Film Ratings Board, theater employees, and the official distributor page for The Weinstein Company, with the various elements compiled into a compelling case presented on Slash Film. Additional reports suggest that the teaser may consist entirely of title cards, which would make sense — but fans aren’t likely to know for sure until Sin City premieres August 22, which will likely be followed by the inevitable bootleg versions of the teaser that will be posted online.

In fact, the bootleg versions of the teaser may be all that’s available online for quite a while, as the site reports that Tarantino won’t officially release the teaser outside of theaters.

While everything about the teaser’s debut seems a little bizarre, it’s not entirely unexpected, given the timeline for the project thus far. After an early script of the film leaked online back in January, Tarantino made a public spectacle of canceling the film, only to revive it a few months later for a live reading of the script with a full cast that included Bruce Dern, Walton Goggins, Samuel L. Jackson, Michael Madsen, and Kurt Russell. The project was later reported to be back on again, with shooting expected to begin in November.

As for what’s in the film, the synopsis for the project reads as follows:

The Hateful Eight follows the steadily ratcheting tension that develops after a blizzard diverts a stagecoach from its route, and traps a pitiless and mistrustful group which includes a competing pair of bounty hunters, a renegade Confederate soldier, and a female prisoner in a saloon in the middle of nowhere.

There’s certain to be more updates on The Hateful Eight as the project moves along, so expect more news if/when the teaser debuts.

3 great free movies to stream this weekend (November 22-24)
Two men sit and talk in Body of Lies.

Welcome to the week of Ridley Scott. The 86-year-old filmmaker's next movie is Gladiator II, the 29th feature film in his illustrious five-decade career. The sequel to the Oscar-winning Gladiator, Gladiator II stars Paul Mescal as Lucius, the former heir to the throne and son of Maximus (Russell Crowe) and Lucilla (Connie Nielsen). After Roman forces kill his wife and force him into slavery, Lucius trains to be a gladiator and sets his sights on exacting his vengeance against the Empire.

Gladiator II will definitely be an awesome theatrical experience. After seeing Gladiator II, why not revisit more projects in Scott's filmography? FAST services are hosting several of Scott's movies, including Gladiator, for free. Our suggestions include a traumatic war film, a groundbreaking road trip adventure, and an espionage thriller.

Are you ready for Glicked? Yes, that's the actual nickname for the simultaneous release of Gladiator 2 and Wicked this weekend. Hollywood is hoping for another bountiful Barbenheimer box office bonanza (say that three times fast), and if the tracking is correct, they are going to get it. Expect tons of crowds at movie theaters this weekend.

If you're like me and hate people, er, crowds, then don't worry, I've got you covered. You can stay in and enjoy some films that have been overlooked. I've assembled a list of three underrated movies that are streaming on Max right now. None of them have the spectacle of Ariana Grande singing in a floating pink bubble or Paul Mescal in a blood-stained toga, but maybe that's a good thing.
