Watch valets joy ride your Stingray thanks to the Performance Data Recorder

If you’ve ever wondered what happens when you hand the keys over to a valet, Chevrolet finally has an answer for you.

As soon as Valet Mode is activated on the Corvette C7 Stingray – when fitted with the optional Performance Data Recorder (PDR) – will now begin recording HD video, in-car audio, and vehicle data, including speed, engine RPM, gear position and g-force.

Before the valet takes the keys, all the driver has to do is enter his or her distinct four-digit pin into the touchscreen and Valet Mode is set. The mode also locks the interior storage and disables the infotainment system.

Once the vehicle is retrieved from the valet, the data can be immediately reviewed on the in-dash screen or downloaded to a laptop for later viewing.

“Think of it as a baby monitor for your car,” Corvette product manager Harlan Charles said in a prepared statement. “Anyone who has felt apprehension about handing over their keys will appreciate the peace of mind of knowing exactly what happened while their baby was out of sight.”

The PDR was developed in conjunction with performance tuner Cosworth to provide Corvette owners an ultimate glimpse into track day performance to both delight drivers and also help them improve their driving precision. This new addition to Valet Mode is simply a clever repurposing of the system.

So if you’ve ever worried that your Corvette is being Ferris Buellered when you’re out on the links at your country club, now you can swing easy … or at least have a heart attack when you get back to your ‘Vette and watch the thrashing your baby just received.
