New trailer for The Evil Within turns up the terror

Bethesda Softworks has released a new gameplay trailer for The Evil Within to coincide with the Tokyo Game Show. The trailer features all manner of horrifying things: shambling zombies, Lovecraftian monstrosities, dilapidated hospital wards, and empty swing sets. For creepy juxtapositional effect, the first chunk of the trailer is set to soothing piano music as the images become scarier and scarier while the narrator informs you of how little hope you have of surviving.

The Evil Within marks the triumphant return of Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami to horror fiction, and he assembled an all-star voice cast to help him. Survival Horror is making a strong comeback lately, with Silent Hills and Alien: IsolationThe Evil Within pushes the interactive experience away from gunplay power fantasies and back to anxiety-producing survival against unfair odds.

It’s set for release on PC and PlayStation/Xbox consoles on October 14, 2014.

This year's Resident Evil 2 remake was an enormous success for Capcom, introducing a new generation of players to the Raccoon City incident with a brand-new control scheme and updated gameplay. It should be no surprise that Capcom is going forward with a full remake of the third game -- Resident Evil 3: Nemesis -- and images hosted on Sony's servers appear to confirm it.

Posters for a Resident Evil 3 remake were discovered by the game tracker Gamstat, which catalogs additions made to the PlayStation Network. Among these are Biohazard RE: 3 and Biohazard RE: 3 Z Version, both of which feature the Nemesis villain. Biohazard is what the Resident Evil series is called in Japan, and was itself the subtitle for Resident Evil 7 in the rest of the world.

Ubisoft quietly confirmed new details on Assassin's Creed Infinity, a hub that's set to launch alongside Assassin's Creed Shadows, on the franchise's official Reddit on Friday. It not only revealed that Animus Hub would be the official name, but that the rewards would be free.

The post was in response to a datamined leak (since taken down via DMCA request) that purportedly revealed a lot of information about the Animus Hub and how it would integrate with Assassin's Creed Shadows. Along with revealing the new name, we learned that the Animus Hub would include a battle pass with cosmetics that can be purchased with Isu Coins, the in-game currency. This led to people assuming that there would be microtransactions involved.
