Range Rover Evoque SW1 headed for Paris with the ‘world’s first’ laser HUD

The latest version of the Range Rover Evoque can be summed up in three words: jacks, lasers, and leather.

The Evoque SW1, a special edition Range Rover inspired by the United Kingdom itself, was announced this week ahead of its official debut at the Paris Motor Show.

The SW1 will be offered in two different styles, a monochrome version based on the entry-level ‘Pure’ trim, and a full color variant based on the premium, trim-laden ‘Dynamic’ package.

No matter which model you choose, however, you’ll be getting a vehicle painted with enough Union Jack emblems to make Austin Powers jealous. Seriously, they’re on the roof, side mirrors, shift knob, headrests, and knowing the nanny state, probably a million other places that you just can’t see.

“These special editions are a celebration of our Britishness,” said Gerry McGovern, Land Rover Design Director.

You don’t say.

Joking aside, the Evoque SW1 is a handsome SUV no matter what package it comes in. A wide variety of colors is available on the Dynamic rendition, ranging from Firenze Red to Loire Blue on the body to gloss Fuji white on the 20-inch alloys.

Taurus Ebony leather adorns the interior of the car, including the gear lever, door inserts, upholstery, and arm rests.

The Evoque SW1 monochrome receives a similar treatment, only with less contrast due to its single color treatment.

According to the British automaker, the SW1 is “the first in a series of ‘Inspired by Britian’ special editions” from Jaguar Land Rover.

Yes, you were promised lasers, and you will get lasers. The entire Evoque line is now available with a laser head-up Display (HUD), one that the manufacturer is calling “the world’s first.”

The HUD projects information like speed, navigation instructions, gear position, and cruise control status with a sharpness and saturation that’s can only come from laser projection.

The display can also recognize traffic signs, emphasizing Jaguar Land Rover’s status as a leader in automotive tech.

The Range Rover Evoque SW1 will be officially revealed at the Paris Motor Show, which runs from October 4th to the 19th.

Never mind slowing sales, 57% of drivers will likely have an EV in 10 years

Sales of electric vehicles (EVs) have slowed globally over the past few years. But should EV makers cater more to the mainstream, it’s likely that 57% of drivers will have an EV in 10 years, consulting firm Accenture says.

Last year, nearly 14 million EVs were sold globally, representing a 35% year-on-year increase. But it was much slower than the 55% sales growth recorded in 2022 and the 121% growth in 2021.

I spent a week with an EV and it completely changed my mind about them
The Cupra Born VZ seen from the front.

After spending a week with an electric car as my main vehicle, opinions I’d formed about them prior to spending so much time with one have changed — and some quite dramatically.

I learned that while I now know I could easily live with one, which I wasn’t sure was the case before, I also found out that I still wouldn’t want to, but for a very different reason than I expected.
