That didn’t take long.
Mercedes-Benz’s current buzz king, the AMG GT, was unveiled just weeks ago, and yet the German automaker already has plans for a special edition model.
Called the AMG GT Edition 1, the beefed-up sports coupe features a choice selection of aesthetic enhancements, prompting its climb to the top of the AMG GT model range.
Autocar recently obtained what appear to be official photos of the car, and they grant a sneak peek at the highly anticipated vehicle’s enhancements.
The car’s body elegant musculature has been sprayed with a unique metallic gray paint job, which is offset by polished 10-spoke black alloy wheels.
A larger, more prominent rear wing replaces the retractable unit on the standard car, and nearly all of the air ducts, bumper edges, and sills have been garnished with carbon fiber.
On the inside, exclusive badging and stitching provides a little more contrast than the standard GT and GT S, but overall, the Edition 1’s enhancements are subtle. With a retail price of approximately $195,000, or $16,200 more than the base vehicle, the special-edition AMG is right in line or just above its European competitors like the Porsche 911.

The Edition 1 performs identically to the AMG GT S, as the 503-horsepower, biturbo 4.0-liter V8 is unchanged. Mercedes says that’s good enough to push the sub 3,527-pound sports car to 60 mph in 3.7 seconds.
The AMG GT rounds out the car’s range with an ‘entry-level’ 456 hp.
The GT S, though, will hit the sales floor first, with deliveries beginning in the spring of 2015. Full details and photo spreads of the entire range are expected at the 2014 Paris Auto Show, which runs October 4th through the 19th.
