There’s been a lot of buzz surrounding Fury director David Ayer’s upcoming Suicide Squad movie based on the DC Comics supervillain team, with high-profile casting calls circulating and no shortage of speculation about where the film will fit in the studio’s ambitious plans for its superhero cinematic universe. The latest report indicates that the project is looking to create a crossover with the upcoming Batman V. Superman: Dawn Of Justice via Jesse Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor.

According to Deadline, WB is currently in discussions with Eisenberg to reprise his Dawn Of Justice role in Suicide Squad, which will hit theaters just a few months later in 2016. With Eisenberg already in talks for a few prominent projects over the next few years, scheduling a return as Luthor that quickly could prove problematic, but the report suggests that it’s a very real possibility with the priority WB is placing on its superhero slate.

Originally conceived in 1959 as a monster-fighting team of government agents and then reimagined years later as a group of supervillains forced to undertake black ops missions for a shadowy government agency, The Suicide Squad has experienced a surge in popularity lately thanks to well-received runs in the DC Comics continuity and the team’s live-action debut in the Arrow television series. Past members of the team have included Poison Ivy, Deathstroke, Harley Quinn, Bane, and Deadshot.

Rumors suggest that the Suicide Squad movie lineup will feature Captain Boomerang, Deadshot, the hulking brute Blockbuster, the self-replicating villain Multiplex, the super-fast speedster Jaculi, the illusion-spinning Mindboggler, and Vixen, who can channel the powers of various animals.

Suicide Squad is currently scheduled to hit theaters August 5, 2016.
