Human Element’s post-apocalyptic wasteland looks familiar, but fresh

Robotoki founder Robert Bowling took the stage at the 2014 Game Awards to share a first taste of his studio’s debut game, Human Element. He also confirmed a November 2015 launch on PlayStation 4, Windows, and Xbox One.

The trailer doesn’t reveal much about the game’s post-apocalyptic setting, which picks up 35 years after zombies decimated most of the Earth’s inhabitants. It looks more like a computer-generated mock-up than raw gameplay, but it at least gives a sense of the style and pace that Robotoki is going for in its open world first-person gameplay.

Bowling came up working at Activision studio Infinity Ward, serving first as community manager and later as creative strategist for the Call of Duty creator. He left in late 2012 and soon after founded Robotoki. Human Element‘s universe was originally meant to be introduced in a prequel game for Ouya, but the studio made the decision to cancel that project and focus its efforts instead on getting Human Element ready for November 2015.

Black Myth: Wukong’s impact is more important than any award
Sun Wukong holds his staff in Black Myth: Wukong.

More than any other game released in 2024, Black Myth: Wukong took the world by storm. The action-adventure title from Game Science, a Chinese developer, annihilated Steam records in August, peaking at over 2.4 million concurrent players. It comfortably sits in second place among its contemporaries, according to SteamDB. Most recently, Game Science reached another milestone by winning Best Action Game and the Player’s Voice voting at The Game Awards.

While Black Myth: Wukong is an adaptation of the classic Chinese novel Journey to the West, it has an entirely different narrative hook: a continuation of the tale itself, set centuries after the adventures of Tang Sangzang, Sun Wukong, Zhu Bajie, and Sha Wujing. In it, you play as the Destined One, tasked with finding the six relics left behind by the Monkey King, Sun Wukong, in an effort to revive him.
