The sequel to 2010’s under-the-radar hit Hot Tub Time Machine debuted its first, red-band trailer back in August, and now the upcoming comedy has a new preview that’s safe for general audiences — or at least, as safe as a movie about a bunch of guys who travel through time to get rich and wasted can really be. It’s meant to be a salve on the recent delay that pushed the movie back from its original December 2014 release.
Hot Tub Time Machine 2 features returning cast members Rob Corddry, Craig Robinson, and Clark Duke, and seemingly replaces original cast member John Cusack with Parks and Recreation actor Adam Scott for the sequel. The film also features the return of Chevy Chase as the enigmatic tub repairman.
The new trailer seems to take a far less linear approach to the film’s storyline than its predecessor, offering a variety of sequences featuring the cast visiting different timelines in their past and potential futures. The basic premise of the film, however, follows Jacob (Duke) and Nick (Robinson) as they attempt to travel through time to discover why their friend Lou (Corddry) — who became “the father of the Internet” using the time machine — is assassinated in their current timeline.
While it’s certainly not going to be the next Back To The Future or Looper, the film looks to have quite a bit of fun with the time-travel plot device.
Hot Tub Time Machine 2 is directed by Steve Pink, who directed the original film, and hits theaters February 20, 2015.
