Lenovo sets its sights on bargain hunters with A7 series Android tablets

First time tablet buyers who don’t want to spend a fortune have a lot of choices, and now they have two more. At CES 2015, Lenovo introduced two new budget Android tablets called the Tab A7-10 and the A7-30.

The Tab 2 A7-10 and A7-30 feature nearly identical specifications. The only difference is that the A7-30 has 3G connectivity and a SIM card slot, so you can make calls and browse the Web even if you don’t have a Wi-Fi connection. Both tablets sport 7-inch LCD screens with resolutions of 1,024 x 600 pixels, and are powered by MediaTek’s MT8127 1.3GHz quad-core processor and 1GB of RAM. Lenovo offers 8 and 16GB internal storage options for the A7 series tablets, but luckily, the storage is expandable via a MicroSD card up to 32GB.

The two tablets currently run Android 4.4 KitKat, which is a year out of date, but Lenovo says an over-the-air update to Android 5.0 Lollipop will arrive in the spring. In terms of connectivity, the A7 series tablets offer GPS, Bluetooth 4.0, and Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n. Lenovo also added Dolby Audio speakers, a 2-megapixel back camera, and a 0.3-megapixel front-facing camera for short video calls. Both tablets come with 3,450mAh batteries, which should last up to 8 hours.

Lenovo’s budget tablets are surprisingly thin and light. The A7-10 measures just 9.3mm thick and weighs 269 grams, while the A7-30 comes in at 8.9mm thick and 269 grams. Lenovo offers the A7 series tablets in a variety of color options, including Aqua Blue, Cotton Candy, Pearl White, and Ebony Black.

The A7-10 and A7-30 tablets will be available on Lenovo’s website in January and March respectively for $100 and $130.
