You bought a smartwatch and were catapulted into the future, but you can’t feel like James Bond until you set up your new wearable. The LG G Watch was released in the summer of 2014 and it was one of the first smartwatches on the market. Set up only takes a few steps, so you’ll be talking to yourself on the street in no time.

Step 1: Turn your watch on. You might have to charge it if it came fresh out of the box.

Step 2: Download Android Wear to your phone, and make sure your Bluetooth is on.

Step 3: Open the app and follow the onscreen instructions. If you ignored the last step, the app will make you turn your Bluetooth on.

Step 4: Your phone will search for devices. Select the watch when it comes up. The name of the wearable is on the face of the watch.

Step 5: The app and watch will display a pairing code, so make sure those match.

Step 6: Touch Pair on your phone and your watch, don’t forget the watch. After a few minutes, it takes some time so don’t worry, you will receive a confirmation message.

Step 7:  Most watches will begin automatic software updates. These are hefty updates so connecting to Wi-Fi on your phone and watch is key.

Step 8: Now you’re going to be prompted to set up notifications, this is what turns a regular watch into a watch of the future. If the phone doesn’t prompt you to do this and you’re not getting notifications, open Settings on your phone, then Notifications, then toggle Android Wear.

Step 9: The last step on your phone is enable Google Now. The app will ask you to do it if you don’t have it enabled already. If you don’t encounter this step, that means you’re already set.

Your watch should be finished updating and you are ready to get started. After asking you to select a language and time the watch will walk you through a short tutorial. You can skip this by tapping through. Once that’s done, you can start setting up the watch how you like it. Like with a phone, you can download apps, customize backgrounds, and fix the settings. The tutorial will take you through all of that.
