NBC has found an actor to serve as the leading man in the network’s upcoming return to the world of Heroes, and it’s someone who has a whole lot of geek cred.

Chuck and Thor: The Dark World actor Zachary Levi will play an unidentified, key role in Heroes: Reborn, the upcoming miniseries set in the same world as the network’s four-season series about people with superhuman abilities.

“One of my first, and fondest, memories of joining the NBC family in 2007 was having the pleasure of getting to know [series creator] Tim Kring, and the cast of Heroes,” said Levi in a press release that announced the casting.

“I was a fan of their collective work and always thought it was such a fantastic and fun world they got to play in. With Heroes: Reborn, I’m honored to have the opportunity to bring more of that world to life, and excited to help in offering the fans of the franchise an epic new installation of a series that made such a huge impact on entertainment.”

Levi joins Jack Coleman as the only announced cast members of the series so far, with the latter actor reprising his role as an agent of the mysterious group known as “The Company,” which pursued individuals with special abilities throughout much of the series.

The original Heroes series aired on NBC for four seasons between September 2006 and February 2010, and earned multiple Primetime Emmy Award nominations and various other notable honors. A premiere date for Heroes: Reborn has yet to be announced, but the 13-episode miniseries is expected to debut later this year.

The sequel to the Oscar-winning Gladiator, Gladiator II stars Paul Mescal as Lucius, the former heir to the throne and son of Maximus (Russell Crowe) and Lucilla (Connie Nielsen). After Roman forces kill his wife and force him into slavery, Lucius trains to be a gladiator and sets his sights on exacting his vengeance against the Empire.
