The Nexus 5 is back in the Google Play Store, so it might be a good idea to scoop one up

Back in October, Google officially announced the Nexus 6, the whale-sized successor to the Nexus 5. Unfortunately, for those who didn’t feel like parting with $650, their next option was the Nexus 5, which has been in and out of stock. Fortunately, if you’re one of those people who really wanted a Nexus 5, today is your chance, as the handset is back in the Google Play Store.

While it remains to be seen for how long it will stay in-stock, the Nexus 5 is currently available in 16GB and 32GB configurations. With black as the sole color option, the handsets are priced at the usual $350 and $400, respectively. Order now and it will ship in 1-2 business days.

Even if your interest in the Nexus 5 is slight, you might want to snap one up anyway, since Google ceased production of the handset. Yes, it has specifications from 2013, with its quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor and 2GB of RAM. Also, other options such as the Moto G exist, too. Regardless, the Nexus 5 is still a capable performer, even by today’s standards. In addition, since it comes directly from Google, it’s usually one of the first to receive software updates to the latest version of Android.

If you’re really more interested in the latest and the greatest from Google, the 64GB variant of the Nexus 6 in both colors is currently out of stock, though the 32GB variant will ship by February 6.

Google Play Store now offers third-party app payments, but only for some users

Google will now open up its Play Store as a result of the European Union's Digital Markets Act, the company announced today. Now, any developers distributing apps or games in Europe (the European Economic Area, to be precise) will be able to sidestep the Google Play billing system with no penalty. The change comes after a similar push in South Korea.

"As of today, Google will not remove or reject updates of non-gaming apps from participating developers for offering alternative billing systems for EEA users. Google Play’s billing system will continue to be required for apps and games distributed via Play to users outside the EEA and for games distributed to users within the EEA. We expect to expand billing alternatives to developers of gaming apps for their users in the EEA, in advance of the DMA's effective date," Google's Estelle Werth, director of EU Government Affairs and Public Policy, said in a blog post.
