Furious 7 continues to make a strong case for the Fast & Furious franchise being one of the best superhero series on the big screen with the release of a new trailer that somehow manages to pack even more action and death-defying stunts into three minutes of footage.
The latest preview of the film reiterates the family-first theme of previous installments of the franchise, but also puts a bit more of the spotlight on the threat posed by Deckard Shaw, the villain played by Jason Statham. A special-ops “monster” looking for revenge after his mercenary brother was killed by Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) and his crew, Shaw is shown blowing up Toretto’s home and brawling with CIA Agent Luke Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) in the trailer, among other explosive acts.
“Dominic Toretto, you don’t know me, but you’re about to,” says Shaw early in the teaser.
Directed by James Wan (Insidious), the seventh installment of the series brings back returning franchise stars Diesel and Paul Walker (Brick Mansions), as well as Dwayne Johnson (G.I. Joe: Retaliation), Michelle Rodriguez (Machete), Jordana Brewster (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning), Tyrese Gibson (Death Race), Chris “Ludacris” Bridges (New Year’s Eve), Elsa Pataky (Snakes on a Plane), and Lucas Black (Friday Night Lights).
New additions to the cast for this installment include Statham and Tony Jaa (Ong-Bak), as well as Kurt Russell (The Art of the Steal), Nathalie Emmanuel (Game of Thrones), Djimon Hounsou (Guardians of the Galaxy), John Brotherton (The Conjuring), and musician Iggy Azaela.
Furious 7 hits theaters April 3, 2015.
