Sony put the Xperia Z2, its latest top-of-the-range Android smartphone, on sale in America over the weekend. Well, sort of.
Like many Sony devices before it, you won’t be able to buy it with a contract on your favorite network – just yet. Instead, if you want to bag a Z2, you’ll have to splash out $700 for an unconnected model through Sony’s own online store. Despite the high price, the Z2 is tempting, with its 5.2-inch, 1080p touchscreen, quad-core processor, and 20-megapixel camera. There are rumors the Z2 will come to at least one network in the U.S. before the end of the summer.
So if you can’t justify paying $700 for it now, then a little patience may be all that’s needed.
In more phone news, The Passport, an unreleased smartphone from struggling manufacturer BlackBerry, has been leaked in a YouTube video. The device has already been partially revealed by the company, but this is our first chance to see the phone in action.
It’s easy to see why it’s gaining attention too: the design is unlike anything else we’ve seen from BlackBerry. It’s square for a start, and apparently equipped with a 4.5-inch touchscreen, along with a gesture-enabled hardware QWERTY keyboard. BlackBerry wants it to offer the best of both worlds, while also making it stand out in a sea of similar-looking phones – which it does, so far. We’ll find out how different it really is when it officially launches later this year.
