Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus’ SCG 003 is ready for both road and track

Wealthy car fan James Glickenhaus has teamed with Ferrari on some outstanding one-off builds, but now he’s going it alone.

The result is Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus (SCG), which will unveil its limited-production supercar in road going (SCG 003S) and racing (SCG 003C) configurations at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show next week.

The car was designed from scratch, complete with its own carbon fiber chassis and racy bodywork that brings to mind a Le Mans prototype.

The racing or “Competizione” version will be powered by an SCG-tweaked engine loosely based on a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 from Honda Performance Development (HPD), the Japanese carmaker’s racing arm.

Two cars have been confirmed for production so far, and they’ll see action at the 2015 Nüburgring 24 Hours race later this year. Glickenhaus previously entered the race with his Ferrari F430-based P4/5 Competizione, finishing 12th.

The street or “Stradale” version of the SCG 003 will retain most of the racecar’s styling, but will get a completely different powertrain.

Instead of the race-bred V6, it’s expected to use a new modular engine design that could allow multiple configurations, including a twin-turbocharged V12.

SCG claims that, in some of its more potent forms, the 003S will rival the Koenigsegg One:1’s vaunted power-to-weight ratio of one horsepower per kilogram (2.2 pounds).

Of course, all of that performance won’t come cheap. Am estimated price of around $2.3 million was previously quoted for the SCG 003S road car, while the SCG 003C racer could cost an additional $840,000 to $1.1 million.

Still, considering that Glickenhaus’ previous car projects were one-offs, it’s fairly remarkable that multiple copies of the SCG 003 will be built at all.

The company reportedly has buyers lined up, but you’ll probably never see one of these on your morning commute.

It’s no secret that automakers and dealerships typically climb over each other to offer the best incentives before the year ends. But this year’s sales season is expected to be particularly competitive, with slowing sales translating to greater urgency to clear inventory.

According to research from Kelley Blue Book, the respected vehicle-valuation firm, overall incentives on new vehicle sales were up by 60% in October compared to the previous year.

Last month, the company, which owns the Jeep, Dodge, and Ram brands in the U.S., invested nearly $30 million into an advanced wind tunnel at its research center in Auburn Hills, Michigan. The goal is to study airflow around a vehicle’s wheels and tires to further optimize its EVs and boost their range.
