We can’t look away from this epic mashup of Princess Bride and Game of Thrones

Princess of Thrones
YouTube users Shawn Kohne and Todd Spence have uploaded this cleverly created mashup of popular HBO show Game of Thrones and cult classic late ‘80s flick

The Princess Bride they call the Princess of Thrones, and it’ll make you cringe — or possibly laugh hysterically.

The only scenes you’ll see from The Princess Bride are the iconic ones of the grandfather (played by Peter Falk) reading a romantic comedy/adventure/fantasy novel to his sick grandson (played by Wonder Years’ Fred Savage). But each time the video cuts away to what grandpa is describing – whether it’s a fight, “romance,” or giants, the scene is a highly graphic one from GoT.

From beheadings, to getting skewered by an arrow, eyes gouged out from the head, and poisonings; and let’s not forget the gratuitous sex scenes; it’s stupendously ridiculous — especially to those of us raised on the brilliant G-rated classic.

Sure, there are a few instances of death and sword fights in The Princess Bride — who can forget the infamous “my name is Inigo Montoya, you killed my father, prepare to die” speech from the character played by the much-loved Mandy Patinkin. But even that famous monologue isn’t sacred, as it’s replaced via an overdub of the infamously brutal death scene of another Spaniard (ish?), Oberyn Martell of Dorne, played by Pedro Pascal.

If you’ve had the pleasure of watching The Princess Bride (and really, if you haven’t, go on and rent this classic ASAP!), and you’re a fan of GoT, the mashup really brings to light the dichotomy between the two portrayals of historical times. And it becomes even more ridiculous when you consider that this is supposed to be a story that’s being read to a young boy. Er, if those pages were described in such graphic detail as the cutaways imply, surely grandpa was toning things down quite a bit!

But you really won’t understand until you have a look yourself.
