Wake up. Walk out the door. Strap on your snowboard. Head down the slopes. Ride your own personal chairlift back to the top. Snowboarder Mike Basich is living this dream in his 225-square-foot tiny home near Truckee, Calif. He told Going off the Grid about his Internet-free, electricity-free, indoor plumbing-free house. A toilet seat is nestled in the snow a few yards from the house. Two creeks supply running water, and his window seat doubles as a curtain-free shower. Not that there’s anyone to see him. The home sits on 40 acres of private trails. Afterwards, he can soak in the view from his outdoor hot tub.
