The sequel to Roland Emmerich’s wildly successful 1996 alien-invasion film Independence Day appears to finally be rolling along with casting announcements and updates on a semi-regular basis. The latest casting news involves yet another returning cast member, as well as a brand new addition to the film’s cast.

Emmerich himself first reported (via Twitter) that actress Vivica A. Fox will reprise her role from the 1996 film (pictured above) in the upcoming sequel, in which she played the girlfriend and eventual wife of Will Smith’s character.

Fox joins Jeff Goldblum as the only announced cast members from the original film to be returning for the sequel so far. Bill Pullman, who played U.S. President Thomas J. Whitmore in the 1996 film, is also expected to return for the sequel in some capacity but nothing has been confirmed at this point.

Earlier this week, Nymphomaniac actress Charlotte Gainsbourg was also reported to be joining the cast. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the actress who’s best known for her work in the indie realm and with auteur Lars von Trier will play an unspecified role in Emmerich’s film.

Other newcomers to the cast include Liam Hemsworth and Jessie Usher, with the former playing the son-in-law of Pullman’s character and the latter playing the son of Smith’s character.

The sequel to Independence Day is currently scheduled to hit theaters June 24, 2016.

The week between Christmas and New Year's is the most awkward one of the year. Why? Well, personally, I don't know what to do with myself. All the Christmas festivities are over, but it's too early to start those resolutions. (And no, I'm not going to start my annual New Year's diet early. Someone has to eat those leftovers.)

The best way to spend time right now is to catch up on things you missed doing in the last 12 months. For me, that's watching movies I heard about and somehow missed watching like Red Rooms or The Order. Along those lines, the following list contains three worthwhile movies streaming on Netflix that are worth your time and attention on the final weekend of the year.
