First teaser for Scream TV series promises to bring slasher cinema to the small screen

Scream (TV Series) | Official Trailer | MTV
A television series based on the popular Scream franchise has been in the works for a while now, but the show finally has a premiere date and its first teaser, which debuted during the recent MTV Movie Awards.

The new series chronicles the deadly aftermath of a YouTube video that goes viral and kicks off a series of grisly murders in the town of Lakewood. As the killings continue, the town’s dark secrets are exposed and a group of teenagers find themselves being hunted down, and questioning who among them has blood on his (or her) hands.

Scheduled to premiere June 30 on MTV, the Scream series stars Bex Taylor-Klaus (Arrow), Willa Fitzgerald (For the Love of a Dog), John Karna (Bindlestiffs), Connor Weil (Sharknado), Carlson Young (As the Bell Rings), Bobby Campo (The Final Destination), and Amadeus Serafini. The preview for the series that debuted during the MTV Movie Awards shows Shake It Up actress Bella Thorne in a grisly sequence reminiscent of the opening to the original Scream movie featuring Drew Barrymore that kicked off the franchise.

The series is expected to be a total reboot of the franchise, with few — if any — nods to the films that inspired the show. However, the character of Noah Foster (Karna) is rumored to be based on the horror-movie expert played by Jamie Kennedy in the original franchise.

It’s worth noting that Scream franchise creator Kevin Williamson has no involvement with the TV series. Also, early reports suggested that the iconic “Ghostface” mask that became the symbol of the franchise would also be scrapped for the series, and based on what can be seen of the killer in the trailer, that appears to be the case.

The pilot episode for Scream — titled “Red Roses” — is directed by Jamie Travis (For a Good Time, Call…) and is based on a script written by Jill Blotevogel (Crossing Jordan).
