Last month saw the trailer drop for State of Decay: Year-One Survival Edition, which made a point of featuring quotes from fans instead of journalists. Those same fans should be very happy, as now the game is finally upon us.
State of Decay first arrived in 2013, and offered a fresh take on the survival horror experience. Critics and fans alike immediately took to the game, and Digital Trends named it as one of the best Xbox Live Arcade games of the year. By November of that year, the game had sold over one million copies.
The Year-One Survival Edition not only marks the first appearance of the game on the Xbox One, but improved lighting, textures, and animations. This will also be the first time the game has run in 1080p on a console.
Though State of Decay has already been on Steam for some time, these improvements are coming to that platform as well. Similar to the recent Scholar of the First Sin re-release of Dark Souls 2, customers who already own the original game on the PC will get a 33 percent discount on the Year One Survival Addition.
In addition to the aesthetic upgrade, State of Decay: Year-One Survival Edition packs in a significant amount of bonus content. The Breakdown and Lifeline add-ons are included, adding new missions and weapons, as well as other new content. Combat mechanics have been refined, so the game should play better than ever.
Those who buy the game between now and May 12 will get the Day One edition of the game, which includes the exclusive “Prepper’s Pack.” This pack adds the SKS firearm, Prepper SUV, and Folding Axe melee weapon.
State of Decay: Year-One Survival Edition is available now on the Xbox One and on Steam. The game sells for $30 on either platform.
