The Pop Astro’s low-end smartphone specifications ring true when you peek at the 4.5-inch, 960 x 540 pixel display. The handset is powered by a quad-core 1.5GHz MediaTek MT6732 processor, backed up by 1GB of RAM. You’ll only get 4GB of internal memory, and from the looks of it, it’s not expandable, so keep that in mind when downloading apps to the phone. If you can afford a phone with more memory, we highly recommend it.
A decently-sized 2,000mAh battery keeps things chugging, while you’ll find a 5-megapixel camera on the back and a 0.3-megapixel camera on the front. Finally, the Pop Astro comes pre-loaded with Android 4.4 KitKat, with no word of whether it will be updated to Android 5.0 Lollipop in the near future.
These specifications won’t blow anyone’s mind, but keep in mind that the Pop Astro is currently available for just $150. If you can’t pay for the phone upfront, you can pay $6.24 per month for 24 months. You’d be getting a decently-spec’d phone with access to T-Mobile’s 4G LTE network and Wi-Fi Calling feature, a seemingly-perfect fit for those who don’t care too much about specifications.
For those who have more money in the bank, Alcatel OneTouch launched the Idol 3, which includes a 1080p display, an octa-core Snapdragon processor, and dual front-facing speakers, along with other niceties. It will be available for purchase this month for $250, though you can currently pre-order the phone on Amazon.
